We enjoyed our experience here! We had the $10 chimichanga (chicken) special which was HUGE, chicken fajitas, and $3 margaritas. We were impressed with the presentation of the food and the flavor of the chicken was excellent. The chips and salsa won us over with chips that appeared more coarse ground with a great crunch and salsa that was for sure mouth pleasing. Yum, yum!!!
Strongly suggest enjoying their beautiful patio whenever you can. Service was impeccable, friendly and attentive. Complimentary chips were thin and crispy and the salsa was perfect restaurant style. Chicken in the fajitas was well seasoned and juicy and the veggies cooked perfect. Definitely need more than 3 tortillas to finish that platter. The quesabirria tacos were to die for. Maybe the best refried beans I have had in a while. And prices were more than fair! Will be back for sure!
The food was wonderful! The service was good too. We came for a late lunch so our expectations were not too high. I would recommend getting any fajita, those were delicious, but the server wouldn't allow any kind of substitution which I thought was weird. The deals are worth looking into like a bucket of beer. The white cheese dip was also very good.
Here is a little bit from their website:
Family History
The idea of Primo's Mexican Restaurant was born with the vision of three "primos" (cousins) who wanted to reawaken their family's recipes and bring back the taste of their family's delicious Mexican dishes. It all started with their Great Grandparents Luis and Carmen Rocha who were immigrants from Mexico and settled in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in a part that was referred to as the "South End". The Rocha family was large and it was typical to have family gatherings and celebrations and with these gatherings came home cooked Mexican food, which everyone raved about. In the late 50's, the Rocha's son, Johnny and his wife Lupe converted a small house into the first family restaurant called The Taco House. Over the years, The Taco House created wonderfully delicious food and great memories. The Taco House later closed its doors in the late 80's.
This history of delicious Mexican food was recreated in 2010 when Primo's Mexican Restaurant was founded and brought to life. The 4th generation of the Rocha family brought an idea to reality and now the family and their passion for delicious Mexican food lives on.
We have enjoyed the food and drinks everytime! It's close to where we are staying. We've been looking for a good Tex-Mex restaurant since we are from west Texas. This hits the spot!
You had to wait for breakfast when Primos first opened. We were 1 of 2 tables! You see time on ticket. Went for a special item, Menudo. Only available they said on this day of the week. Condiments (oregano) not available?! Had regular breakfast, it was good. Wife had tres leches French toast. She liked it. Then second biggest issue. A different guest received my bill. He saw it, paid it, and ran because it was only @25 dollars. I received his for $38 dollars on my card. She couldn't figure out how to fix and no manager ever appeared during visit. Server gave me cash for difference. Bad for her! Where is management? Food delivered was good, but don't go for breakfast for a while till hopefully the fix it. Sorry!
My husband has been wanting to try this restaurant, and we were going to Baxter Arena close by for a concert and decided to stop in. It was a Friday night around 6 o’clock and this restaurant was fairly busy. The sign said please seat yourself, but there was a server standing by to see people accordingly. wWe had one server stop by to grab our drinks, and we ordered queso as an appetizer. A few minutes later, we had another server stop by to get our drink order as well. Then a third server stopped by with our drinks and delivered our queso. A few minutes later, another queso arrived for our table, which I wouldn’t usually complain because I love queso, but it was awkward. I felt like they were running around very unorganized. I went with the street tacos, and everything came out as I ordered. I went with a Carnita, Barbacoa, and the other pork option, but I can’t think of the fancy name for it. The meat was very flavorful, and there was a lot of meat on the tacos. Our server was very friendly, but we didn’t have fast service. We had asked for multiple things multiple times. Overall, I want to try the place again but maybe on a different weeknight or the weekend to see if the service is a little bit better.
My brother and I enjoyed our time at primos!! What a great place for chilled convo and great food!! We sat at the bar and our bartender was fantastic!! I recommend you go on a Sunday as he says he only works part time!! Bald guy red beard!! Really good margarita’s!! I’m always heavy on the booze tho so that is my only recommendation moving forward!!
What a hottie!!!
Date Jan 22, 2024. Arrived 9:20, 3 tables where full, place empty, received waitress attention 9:40, food order taken 10:15, recived food 10:40, 4 waitresses walking around, place cold, waitress had very little knowledge of the menu, let us know she got in argument with morning cook over how we wanted our eggs prepared. Received one plate half prepared due to egg issue. She said the cook was being negative and angry this morning. I ordered biscuits and gravy and I received mush. My eggs where supposed to be medium well and they where already broken and yolk on my plate dried as if my plate sat for along time. My food was nasty any cold. I didn't not eat it. The other plate that my husband ordered was cold and nasty he took 2 bites and left it. Told the waitress the food was not good and was not offered any compensation or replacement. We where told by the waitress we should come eat in the night where the cooks are better. Paid $60 for nothing. I keep replaying in my mind that I should not of paid for it. I should of just left. So disappointed. What a waste.
